Are all late documents distributed to council members? Thank you, Angelique Fry CITY OF PETALUMA 1VIEMORAN®UM Animal Services, 840;Hopper SY~ee1; Pelaluma, CA 94952 707n78=4396 jax707r178-4397 DATE: 16 January 2008. TO: Mike Bierman, City Manager FROM: Nancee Tavares, Animal. Services Manager RE: .Advisory Committee Recommendation on Feral Pigs The Animal Services Advisory Conunittee agreed to all recommendations made by pig owner; Angelique Fry. They are: 1. Any requirement regarding zoning should be removed. Pigs are the only domestic animal included in zoning. (Pigs classified as household pets; not livestock.) 2. Curnent weight limit of 1001bs. is unrealistic. According to Calvin Doty, DVM, who has much experience with this animal, the average weight of a pot belly pig is 90-100 pounds. He believes the very maximum weight should be 200 to 250 pounds. 3. Pigs will be spayed/neutered wiles otherwise recommended by veterinarian. 4. Pigs will be licenses in the same way as dogs. 5. 'I~sks will be regularly trimmed to a maximum of one-inch. 6. Fencing should be durable to hold pigs. Pigs must have access to shelter at all times. 7. Area will be kept in a clean and sanitary way. 8. An aggregate (total) of four pigs/dogs will be allowed. After surveying manysimilar jurisdictions, I recommend allowing a maximum of two got belly pigs. As with housing;requirements for other animals {including dogs) in Petaluma, pen and .shelter must`be a miru~ium of 25 feet from the nearest dwelling and no closer than five feet from the-fence line; hdo not foresee any additional problems that already exist with other domestic animals, with:tle exception of rooting. All pigs root (dig up the ground). it could be an environmentaland' neighbor concern if the rains cause runoff. The,Frys: knowingly violated current Petaluma ordinances and continue to be in violation. I recommend tliey be fined, as would violators of other City of Petaluma ordinances.
