Brown, City Manager SUBJECT: Recognition of Employee'Longevity RECOMMENDATION It is recommended the City Council,publically,acknowledge those employees who celebrated service/anniversaries during the fourth quarter;ofcalendar year 2012. BACKGROUND Until 2009, the contributions'of,Citysniployees to they comnf'unity'and the organisation were recognized by Employee of the Quarter'and Employee.of the Year observances. Recognition included a presentation by the City Manager duringra Council meeting, and cash awards;. Cash 'awards wereeliminated in 2009,just one of the many meanstemployed to balance budgets during the economic downturn. Quarterly and Annual recognition observances:have been suspended since'thafMile. The Connell;alsorecognized employee longevitymilestones'in the past. More recently, these are'.recognized at'the,d`epartment level with'.a_service pin, and with a certificate signed by the City Manager and the Mayor: In February 2012, the City.Council conducted annual.goal=setting. The Council retained the goal to "Build a cohesive team comprised of the Mayonand Council, City Manager and City staff, . that provides clear.and,consistent'direction and works together with mutual trust and respecrto provide needed public;;services and protect theipublic's interests", within the_goal category of "Council/Staff Effectiveness and,Decision Making". As such, the Council set-a,priority to "reinstitute no-cost employee?-recognition programs: quarterlyā€˛annually, and longevity ,As cthe CitY g's budget situation-remains tight,theCouncil,.directed that,Employees of the Quarter''and Year be:recognized with non-monetary awards, perhaps contributed,by.the local business community., 'This program, as the Council is aware, will require time to develop and impleitlent. Recognizing employee longevity,,on=thie other hand, can be implemented immediately as associated,costs are nominal..Accordingly, this item is placed on the Council.'<.sagenda,to'allow for the.recognition;of longevity milestones reached by City employees,,during the third,quarter of calendar ear.20a Y 2. Agenda Review: I City Attorney Finance Director , City Manager DISCUSSION Employees who celebrated anniversaries,iq,the:fourth withal'.of 2012 were Dave Deorsey, Information Technology 15 years Erica Altmann Smithiesā€˛Public Works& Utilities 5 years Salvador Calderon, Public Works & Utilities 5 years Jeanne Castro, Public Works,& Utilities 5 years Matthew Frick; Police.Department 5 years Jerry Hoffman; Building Division 5 years Stephen Kennedy, Public Works &Utilities 5 years Aaron Lindh, Police Department 5 years FINANCIAL IMPACTS, The cost of longevity recognition for the fourth quarter of 2012 is $400, and is included in existing budgets.
