Medians on Lakeville Highway . ' He reviewed some cost estimates and asked for Council direction regarding the Lakeville Highway Widening Project. The City Engineer Tom Hargis, showed a video tape of Landscape Islands in the following communities . Grande Road in Petaluma The narration for the video tape included suggestions of which designs were better maintenance wise. .The - City Council asked for a chart comparing the. three (3) levels of 'median strip' construction from low - maintenance to heavy maintenance with a long term price comparison as well as the installation price comparison. The City Council also suggested that staff consider ivy as a plant for the 'median strip! planting . There is an intersection on Lakeville Highway with Casa Grande, which is large enough to allow more landscaping treatment than had been discussed. Staff was asked to look at this and bring a report back. The Council also asked staff to consider plantings along the sides of the arterials that would compliment that which is planted in the median strip . An example of an acceptable ' ~~median--was the Lombardi median strip. Council also .discussed the strip 0„ of Petaluma Boulevard North between Shasta and the northerly city limits r~ , by Stony Point Road, where some> trees have been removed. It was ~ suggested the City communicate with the .County to see if a tree planting e'E~ program cou e s ar e o rep ace a felled trees . The Council asked that this subject be included in the Capital Improvement Program. The Council has as ed for maintenance cost estimates. The Council also commented there should . be a variety of landscape treatment throughout //~~~~ the community's medians. TRAN~T SITE ~ECTION REPOR/yyTZ~~c ~~G~~ Assistant City Manager, Gerie Beatty, advised the Council that the Metropolitan Transportation Commission has set aside $50, 000 to study a new Transit Transfer Station Site in Petaluma. Staff .recommended reducing .the study funds . to $20, 000 and to use the remaining $30, 000 . to implement immediate. improvements to the existing Bus..:D.epot. at 4th' & C Streets: .After some :discussion the .subject was referred to the Transit Site Selection Committee consisting of Councilmembers Balshaw, Davis, and. Woolsey. BUS REPLACEMENT Assistant City Manager Gene Beatty, advised the Council that the fleet of Mercedes Benz buses has pretty much exhausted its life expectancy. This bus is no longer imported into the United States and the Council needs to consider a different type of bus. After considerable discussion it was agreed the Mayor would appoint a subcommittee of the Council to work with staff on bus replacement . Industrial - After considerable discussion it was Council consensus that the surcharge collected, will be s.et . aside for a period of nri;e (9) months.
