SCHOOL CROSSING PROTECTION -TRAFFIC GRANT
The' City Attorney reviewed the State codes relating to crossing guards..
The City Engineer reviewed the traffic controls that are in effect at school,;
crossings. Police Chief Murphy requested that the City Council authorize.
the application for a grant from the National Highway Transportation Funds"..
for increased traffic patrol in the City. Don McPherson presented a
petition with 574 signatures requesting the City increase its traffic
enforcement capability. Robert Merra and Ernest Valdez both spoke about.
the need to increase traffic law enforcement. The City Manager asked the
Council to authorize staff to prepare an agreement using the standards -
established by the State Office of Transportation for presentation to the
school districts; and at the same time, the City will finish up the various
locations the schools have asked us to study, bring the draft back to the
Council, then present it to the schools; and to go ahead and .authorize the
Mayor to sign a grant application as requested by the Police Chief .
