JONNY COMES DAY-AUGUST 21,2013
WHEREAS,Jonny Gomes, who was born in Petaluma, began his baseball career with the
Petaluma American Little League, with hopes of someday playing baseball on television as a
major league player; and
WHEREAS,Jonny was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2001, and played for the
Cincinnati Reds from 2009-2011, the Oakland A's in 2012, and signed with the Boston Red Sox
in 2012 for the 2013-2014 seasons; and
WHEREAS, Jonny has returned to Petaluma each fall to provide instruction to young
ballplayers, and to raise funds for community groups including the Casa Grande High School
baseball and Petaluma Little League organizations; and
WHEREAS, in 2012,Jonny was instrumental in supporting the players and coaches on the
Petaluma National Little League baseball team as they played their way to the Williamsport
World Series as well as raising funds so the player's families could attend the games in
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, as a Boston Red Sox player, Jonny will be in San Francisco on Wednesday,
August 21, 2013 to play against the San Francisco Giants.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, David Glass, Mayor of Petaluma, along
with the members of the City Council, do hereby encourage the Petaluma community to show
their thanks to Jonny Gomes for his support of the Petaluma community by attending the San
Francisco Giant's game on August 21, 2013.

This is an opportunity to support Petaluma's Jonny Gomes and thank
him for his support of our Petaluma National Little League on their
bjourney to Williamsport last year. Hometown hero Gomes worked
ehind the scenes to raise funds to help support both players and
parents.
