1 URGING CONGRESS TO
2 EXTENSION OF THE
3 LOW-INCOME HOUSING TAX CREDIT
4 WHEREAS, the Low-Income Tax Credit is the primary remaining Federal
5 resource for the production of low-income housing; and,
6 WHEREAS, the need for housing to accommodate the workers in the low-
~ income category; and,
8 WHEREAS, the Senate Budget Reconciliation Package did not include
9 extension of this tax credit beyond the scheduled sunset date of December 31, 1.989;
1 o and,
11 WHEREAS, there is a desperate need for the development of low-income
12 housing units; and,
13 WHEREAS, there is a great disparity between the availability of affordable
14 housing and the growing numbers of homeless workers:
15 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of
16 Petaluma urges Congress to extend the Low-Income Tax Credit as a very
17 meaningful way to support private enterprise in its effort to fill the demand for this
18 type of housing.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
