HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2004-180 N.C.S. 09/20/2004 resolution No. 2004-180 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NORTH BAY VETERANS STAND DOWN, OCTOBER 12-14, 2004 WHEREAS, "Veterans Helping Veterans" through Operation Hand Up have taken the lead in organizing the third North Bay Stand Down to assist homeless veterans in the area comprised of Solano, Napa, Sonoma and Yolo Counties; and, WHEREAS, veterans and/or immediate family members of veterans who served in any branch of the armed services, who are homeless and/or in need, are invited to attend the Stand Down scheduled for October 12, 13 and 14, 2004 at the Dixon Fairgrounds, 655 South First Street, Dixon (see Exhibit A); and, WHEREAS, the Stand Down is a grass roots and community-based focused outreach to provide services to those veterans and/or families who normally do not access local and veteran services, and allow them to apply for benefits they have never received by have earned due to their service to our country; and, WHEREAS, the Stand Down brings public awareness to the plight of veterans in our communities as well as bringing federal, state and local service providers together to work as a team to solve social problems; enables local veterans to help veterans in need; identifies, refers and transports homeless veterans to other extended stand downs, transition centers, drug and alcohol treatment programs, employment opportunities, and other appropriate programs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma does hereby support and applaud the efforts of the veterans and other individuals who have organized the North Bay Stand Down, and encourage all veterans in need to attend and take advantage of the resources being offered. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
