HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 04/01/2013 (3) er,. tCttp of ill proclamation PETALUMA RIVER CLEANUP DAY—MAY 4,2013 WHEREAS,the Petaluma River is one of Petaluma's premier natural resources, providing water for wildlife,recreation, and commercial uses; and WHEREAS, the Petaluma Marsh is the largest unaltered tidal marsh on the west coast; and WHEREAS,the Petaluma river is known for its beauty, its commercial and recreational amenities, and attracts thousands of visitors to Petaluma each year; and WHEREAS, efforts are now underway to restore and enhance this river and its wetlands and watershed; and WHEREAS,tons of trash,junk, and debris annually find their way into the Petaluma River, its banks and its many tributaries, damaging the aesthetic, biological and commercial qualities of the river and its watershed; and WHEREAS, for the past 19 years, a river cleanup effort has been sponsored each spring; and WHEREAS,the City of Petaluma, local businesses, local service groups and numerous environmental groups and volunteers will all donate time and materials to make this a successful event. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, David Glass, Mayor of Petaluma, along with the members of the City Council, do hereby declare May 4, 2013 as "Petaluma River Cleanup Day" and encourage all residents to get involved in the annual cleanup effort.
