RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
RECREATION SUPERVISOR
WHEREAS the City Manager as the Personnel Officer of the
City has submitted to the Council a revised job description for the
classification Recreation Supervisor in order to bring it into conformity with
the present work assignment, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the job
description of Recreation Supervisor is hereby revised to establish the
duties in accordance with the description in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and
made a part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken
pursuant to Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations
(Rule IV, Section 5) for classifications of the Personnel System, that the
notice of this actis~n has been properly posted and that the City Manager
recommends this action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No.
7054 N . C . S . , as amended, and Resolution 87-189, is hereby amended to
include establishment of the revised classificatis~n of Recreation Superviser,
to remain assigned to Unit 9 (Mid-Management) , effective August 7, 1989.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.

RECREATION SUPERVISOR
Definition
Under direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, to be responsible for
planning, promoting, organizing and directing a variety of recreational
programs such as sports, special events, aquatics, after school, teens and
classes. Performs related work as required.
Example of Duties:
Plans, organizes, supervises and markets assigned ,portions of the City-wide
recreation program; develops new activities for youth and adults; selects,
assigns, supervises and trains part-time recreational personnel and
volunteers. Plans, organizes, interprets rules, carries out assignments,
and provides general supervision of program participants, equipment,
facilities and spectators; follows all Parks and Recreation Department
policies and procedures and insures program policy guidelines are
maintained; outlines work to be done in order to have recreation areas and
faci]ities ready for use in carrying out the program as planned; makes
arrangements for the use and maintenance of such public facilities under
the control of agencies or divisions such as park maintenance; maintains,
prepares, and supervises written records, reports, registration forms and
other program materials, as assigned; prepares correspondence and
communications pertaining to recreation and directs the preparation of
recreation publicity designed to interest the public.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education & Experience: Any combination equivalent to a B . S . in
recreation or related field and three years full-time professional recreation
experience in organizing and supervising recreation and leisure time
activities. In lieu of the above: any combination equivalent to graduation
with an AssocaatQ of Arts Degree and five years full-time experience in
organizing and supervising recreation and leisure time activities.
Knowledge of: Recreation programs and supervisory methods, with skills in
planning, organizing and supervising recreational activities; supervising
recreation leaders and assigned volunteers; preparing budget requests;
maintaining records; following and communicating po]icies and procedures;
preparing correspondence and reports; maintaining registration forms and
other program materials; establishing and maintainuzg effective working
relationships with participants, citizens, groups, agencies and employees.
Ability to: Hire, train and supervise recreation program staff; prepare
budgets; make Commission and City Council presentations; originate new,
innovative programs; have good pub]io relations skills; analyze program cost
effectiveness.
