re: Dutra proposal and Dec. 7 Council meeting
December 6, 2009
Dear Madame Mayor and Honorable Council Members:
I thank you again for your previous strong support for safeguarding our valuable community resources of Shollenberger Park,
the Ellis Creek wetlands and our Petaluma River. I am sure you have the continued strong support of our community to repeat
and sustain this. stand in your deliberations Monday evening. As a Nov. 20 op ed piece stated in the Press Democrat:
"the Sonoma County electorate has used the ballot box to protect its coast, take control of land use in our community
separators, establish voter control over urban growth boundaries around most of the cities, fund SMART rail, express
concern for agriculture and our beautiful.scenery by creating and twice financing the Open Space District and establish the
scenic corridor and its rules below Petaluma. Sonoma County is receiving growing statewide recognition for what the
voters' green mandate has accomplished."
I remind you that the Dutra corporation has a .long-standing and, on-going list of environmental complaints,
violations, legal sanctions, misleading promises and unhappy neighbors and citizens in various locations of its
operations. The op ed column. also reported that "Even London now requires asphalt plants to be located 20
miles from city limit lines, and "The EIR finds regional asphalt plant capacity more than adequate."
I see no compelling need or reason in the public interest to grant Dwtra the special privilege - at significant
detriment - of being permitted to establish an asphalt factory at Haystack Landing. I encourage and expect
your continued vigorous support in opposing approval of their request to the Sonoma Board of Supervisors;
and I offer you mine!
Thank you very'much,
Barry
