HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 89-071A N.C.S. 03/06/1989Resolution No. s9-71 ~ N C.S. of the City of ~'etaluma, California RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY IN PETALUMA WHEREAS, the City has in its General Plan adopted strong policy statements identifying the community's support for economic development to: Provide jobs for Petaluma workers and. tax revenues for the City by expanding and maintaining diversity in Petaluma's economic base and focusing development efforts on clean, non-polluting industry. . Enhance the City's sales tax revenues by strengthening Petaluma retailing to serve the needs of local residents and encouraging shoppers from outside the community. Reserve industrially-zoned areas primarily for workplace uses. . Increase the employment density of Petaluma. workplace development by gradually increasing the density of new industrial development. . Provide for the continued expansion of employment at a minimum rate of 750 full-time jobs annually. . Maintain and expand Petaluma's existing retail base. WHEREAS, in support of these policies the City strives to provide well-planned, attractive industrial/business parks and commercial centers; and, WHEREAS, the City endeavors to promote desired economic development by maintaining a positive physical and policy environment conducive to attracting new and maintaining existing economic activities; and, WHEREAS, the City staff is attuned to the needs of development proponents and strives to offer expedient development processing; Res. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is the declared intent of the City of Petaluma to promote business, commercial and industrial development for the public purpose of assuring or obtaining a. The full and gainful employment of residents of the City; b. The full and efficient utilization and modernization of existing industrial, commercial, and business facilities; c. The development of new clean non-polluting industrial, commercial and business facilities; d. The growth of the City's tax base through increased property values and consumer purchasing; e. The stability and diversification of the City's economy; f. The lowering of the cost of City consumers of necessary goods and services; g.
