RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
ASSOCIATE PLANNER
WHEREAS the City Manager as the Personnel Officer of the
City has submitted to the Council a revised job description for the
classification Associate Planner in order. to bring it into conformity with the
present work assignment, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the job
description of Associate Planner is hereby revised to establish the duties in
accordance with the description in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a
part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken
pursuant to Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations
(Rule IV, Section 5) for classifications of the Personnel System, that the
notice of this action has been properly posted and that the City Manager
recommends this action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No.
7054 N . C . S . , as amended, and Resolution 87-189, is hereby amended to
include establishment of the revised classification of Associate Planner, to
remain assigned to Unit 4 (Professional) , effective October 3, 1988.

conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.

Definition
Under general direction, to perform and present to the public a variety of
technical planning, research and analysis` projects; to supervise and.
participate in the day-to-day administration of zoning regulations; and to do
related work as required.
Examples of Duties
Supervise and participate in the administration of zoning regulations and
related current planning activities.; make studies and investigations of
special. use,, variance and site desigriJ review ;applications, and of .land use
and rezoning problems,; prepare and ;present repos"ts',, recommendations, and
supporting data; .supervi'se ,and, part-cipate•in~,the collection, tabulating and
analysis of data related to land ;use, ~tarchitectural and environmental
planning; maintain planning r-esearch~ files; participates in advance planning
work; perform and present architecturalt and: ;site• design. studies of proposed
land uses:; prepare and/or supervise preparation of maps and graphic
illustrations used in presentation of reports; may attend Site Plan and
Arc'fiiteetural Review Committee and ~Planni~ng • .Commission meetings and some
City Council meeting's; represent the department at other meetings and
conferences as assigned.
Employment Standards
Education and Experience,:. Any combination equivalent

experience in planning and zoning administration w~

Knowledges and Abilities': Knowledge of community planning principles and
the factors affecting comm.uni:ty development ,and operation; knowledge of
and ability to apply research 'and statistical methods related to the
collection,, compiling and analysis of basic .planning da"ta; knowledge of the
techniques ;involved in drafting and graphic presentations; knowledge of
State, and local planing,, .environmental, subdivision.; and zoning laws-;
ability to supervise the work° of planning assistants; ability to establish and
maintain effective relationships with other employees., officials,
representatives of the development community and the public. Special
knowledge or tra~riing in 'the fields of archi~tectizre, architectural history,
civil engineering,; 'landscape .architecture, and./'or urban design are pluses.
Computer literacy an,d word processing skills are highly desirable.:
