RESOLUTION AMENDING CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO ESTABLISH A
NEW POSITION CLASSIFICATION OF SENIOR PLANNER
AND DESIGNATING IT TO UNIT 9, (MANAGEMENT)
BE IT RESOLVED that the Classification Plan and Compensation
Plan as originally adopted pursuant to Resolution No. 6118 N . C . S . , as
amended, and the classification titles and specifications as adopted by
Resolution No. 7054 N . C . S . , are hereby amended by establishing a
classification of Senior Planner, (as attached hereto and marked Exhibit "A'°
and made a part hereof) .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this act'~on is taken pursuant to
Personnel Code 2.04.. 020 and Personnel Rules and. Regulations (Rule IV ,
Section 5) for classifications included in the Competitive Service of the
Personnel System, that the notice of this action ,has been properly posted
and that the City Manager recommends this action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No. 7054
N . C . S . , as amended, is hereby amended to include estab]ishment of the
classification of Senior Planner and assigning this classification to Unit 9
(Management) , effective October 3, 1988, at a salary range of $2,715 -
$3,310 per month.

SENIOR PLANNER
DEFINITION
Under general direction, to assist in planning and directing the
adrnini~stratve and. technical phases of City planning and community
development; to conduct or supervise long-range planning projects,
environmental reviews (or assessments).,. housing, revitalization, ,
redevelopment, economic development and planning ,grant programs; and to
do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists the departmental. managem~ent~ team in planning, organizing and
directing the planning sand community deve`opment work activities of the
department,,. Performs delegated admrni~stratve functions within
departmental policy.. May supervise ,and Boor"dinate advance planning
activities. Plans: and conducts assigned, long-'range Viand long term planning
projects. performs special studies as'assigned,,- Engages in research on
planning problems ,including. population estimates, ;economic growth, land
use, zoning and social statistics;, Evaluates .development plans for
conformity with established, policy and ~the~ gen.er;.al plan,. Analyzes data on
land use and development and develops' recommendations for action.
Prepares or supervises the preparation of graphs, charts and other
materials for presentation. Assists in supervising and training employees
and evaluates their work. Prepares reports, designs, plans, studies and
Corr-espondence. Attends: City Council, Commission. or meetings of other
groups on planning ;matters. Provides planning, housing, revitalization,
economic acid other information to residential, business and property
owners., subdividers, b,ulder,ss, :other City _department_s and public agencies
and.. the pub°lic; when. assigned, acts as Principal ,Planner in his /her
absence.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education ari-d Experience : Any ~ combination.. equivalent to ;graduation from
college with a degree in planning, architecture., engineering or a related
field anal. three years 'of' progressively responsible. experience in public
planning,: including one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity..
Knowledge of : Community planning techniques and disciplines,

socio-economic ;factors affecting community planning„ housing and
revitalization.; Federal,, St-ate and local planning, lawn and programs.
Ability to: Collect and' analyze, .data and facts;. prepare, present anal
interpret factual- .data„ make coneluson~s' and recommendations and to
