THE LAKEVIaLLE AREA, ADJACENT TO THE CITY OF PETALUMA. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN -a regular Meeting of -the City Council of the City of Petaluma on' the 7th day of ,May, 1.962, WHEREAS., from time to time, the City of Petaluma and the County of Sonoma have received protests ,and petitions concerning the odor nuisance problem in the Lakeville area :a'djac.ent. to the City o Petaluma created by the existing rendering p9f,ants and a fertilizer plant; and WHEREAS, the (City of .Petaluma in its adoption of the General Plan proposed Light industrial development in the area in quest ion, which, development does not encourage the existing odor producing facilities unless strictly controlled; and WHEREAS, it appears the rendering plants' ben by means of machinery and other operating controls eliminate the odor prob1em but that the fertilizer plant is not, accordi'ng. 'to the information of this Council, able to contro) odor as machinery and equipment does not appear to be availablet for tah'i.s type of operation; and! WHEREAS', the rendering plants have indicated an intention, ' and apparently are insta .li'ng odor-control equipment; and WHEREAS, the fertilizer plant hats openly recognized its odor problem and has attempted to relocate But has' :not been able to purchase or lease appropriate property; NOW, THEREFORE, BE 17' RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Petaluma request the County of Sonoma to assist in the control of odors in this area by requiring , where appropriate, the installation of odor-control ecutprneh.t. and further that the County' of Sonoma; take such steps to assist the fertilizer plant ,40Zra to relocate in an area more •app:roprtate and in an area where odors uli11 not affect the City of Petaluma, and its immditat.e surrounding areas , BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma request the Board of Supervisors to give this problem high priority in order that the improvement plans for the area as set forth in the General Plan will come to early fruition; and I „ BE IT FURTHER.
