RESOLUTION AMENDING CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO ESTABLISH A
NEW POSITION CLASSIFICATION OF PLAN CHECKER
AND DESIGNATING IT TO UNIT 4, (PROFESSIONAL)
BE IT RESOLVED that the Classification Plan and Compensation
Plan as originally adopted pursuant to Resolution No. 6118 N . C . S . , as
amended, and the classification titles and specifications as adopted by
Resolution No. 7054 N . C . S . , are hereby amended by establishing a
classification of Plan Checker, (as attached hereto and marked Exhibit "A"
and made a part hereof) .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken pursuant to
Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations (Rule IV ,
Section 5) for classifications included in the Competitive Service of the
Personnel System, that the notice of this action ..has been properly posted
and that the City Manager recommends this action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No. 7054
N . C . S . , as amended, is hereby amended to include establishment of the
classification of Plan Checker and assigning this classification to Unit 4
(Professional) , effectsve September 6, 1988, at a salary range of $2,486 -
$3,025 per month.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.

of Chief Building; Inspector, .reviews all building
applicable State and Local Codes, Ordinances and
Reviews structural design,- State Handicapped and. Energy Conservation
requirements . Checks complex, plans. and .calculations to determine stability
and loading of all structural; .members and connections. Determines the
adequacy of. design to; meet earthquake,. windload and material stress
requirements . Answers questions 'and gives :assistance to architects ,
engineers, con,tracfors and th;e general. public regarding Building Codes
interpretation and compliance. Assists. contractors: an:d home owners with
Building Permit, applications. Issues permits after plan review approval.
Keeps records and prepares .reports and correspondence as required.

required knowledge and abilities: Typical 'ways to have obtained the
knowledge and abilities would be:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience' in structural desig-n
and./or structural plan.. checking of typical residential, commercial or
industrial. projects is required:. A Bachelor's De'gr.ee or ICBO Certification
may be substituted for up to one year of plan checking experience:.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
with major work in Givl or Structural Engineering, Architecture or closely
related. field.. ICBO Certificate. as a Plan Examiner.
Knowledge and Abilities r
Thrbug_h knowledge: of :State °Building Codes,, including Uniform Building
Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, .National Electrical
Code and -State; Handicapped., `and Energy Conservation requirements.: The:
ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. The ability to make
engneerin,g computations and analysis to check. building construction
design. Theability to effectively communicate.. with contractors, designers
and the generalpublic, both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize
ai;d maintain records . Computer literacy is' essential. Valid California
Driver's. License
