RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
INTERMEDIATE TYPIST CLERK
WHEREAS the City Manager as the Personnel Officer of the
City has submitted to the Councill a revised job description for the
classification Intermediate Typist Clerk in order to bring it into conformity
with the present work assignment, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the job
description of Intermediate Typist Clerk is hereby revised to establish the
duties in accordance with the description in Exhibit "A" attached heretr~ and
made a part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken
pursuant to Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations
(Rule IV, Section 5) for classifications of the Personnel System, that the
notice of this action has been properly posted and that the City Manager
recommends this action .
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No.
7054 N . C . S . , as amended, and Resolution 87-189, is hereby amended try
include establishment of the revised classification of Intermediate Typist
Clerk, to remain assigned to Unit 5 (Clerical) , effective August 1, 1988.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.

INTERMEDIATE TYPIST CLERK
Defini_tir~n
Under general supervision, tre do general typing and clerical work of
average difficulty; and. to do related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class require prior clerical experience. An Intermediate
Typist Clerk .works under general supervision and, within a framework of
established procedures, is expected ~ perform a wide variety of typing and
general clerical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance.
Employees in this grade 'may often have contact with the public, answering
a variety of procedural questions or giving out 'information from established
records. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall
results.
Example of Duties ~ .
Performs a wide .variety of clerical work .including typing of a wide variety
of materials from rough. draft copy, marginal notes., verbal instructions, or
transcribing machine recordings,: including letters, case records, reports,
legal documents, req.ui.5i_tir~ns, warrants, vouchers, work orders, notices,
file cards, petitions, charts., estimates, receipts, time and equipment
sheets, and va.rinus forms and statistical data;• performs counter and
telephone service, answering inquiries involving routine departmental
procedure activities and functions; refers or reconciles complaints; reviews
and accepts requests, permits, and application forms; may operate
duplicating equipment; proofreads; may receive, sort, distribute, and
dispatch mail; sorts, indexes, and .files materials alphabetically,
numerically, and by other predetermined categories; searches for and
removes file material; arranges routine materials for typing; maintains
mailing lists; prepares acknowledgements and replies from form letters;
secures, prepares, and copies standard departmental information and data;
verifies columns of figures; checks and tabulates statistical data; makes
arithmetical calculations and may perform some basic posting work incidental
to report or record .keeping preparation; may operate copy equipment,
electronic calculators and other office machines.
Employment Standards
Education. and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from
high school and two years of clerical and typing experience.
Know]edges and, Abilities: Knowledge of 'modern office methods, procedures
and appliances; ability to spell and use good English; knowledge of word
processing;- ability to type accurately from clean copy at a rate of not less
than 45 net .words a minute; ability tD compose correspondence; ability to
do typing and clerical work involving independent judgment and initiative;
ability to get along well with- fellow employees.
