HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 88-251 N.C.S. 07/18/1988:~• , '% ~ ~~S®lUtlOrl N~. 88-251 ~ ~.5. of the City of Petaluma, California REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SONOMA TO CONSOLIDATE THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL AND PETALUMA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 1988, WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma called Regular Municipal and School Board Elections in said City to be held on November 8, 1988, for the purpose of the election of three (3) members of the City Council for four-year terms, and two (2) members of the Petaluma School Board for four-year terms; and, WHEREAS, it is desirable that said Regular Municipal and School Board elections be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date; and, WHEREAS, that within said City and Petaluma School District the precincts, polling. places, and election officers of the three elections be the same, and that the County Clerk of the County of Sonoma canvass the returns of the Regular Municipal Election and that said Statewide General Election and Regular Municipal Election be held in all respects as if there were only one election NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: 1. That pursuant to the requirements of §23302 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Sonoma is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a Regular Municipal and a School Board Election with the Statewide General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 1988, for the purpose of the election of three members of the City Council and two members of the Petaluma School Board for four-year terms; and, 2. Pursuant to the requirements of the Charter of the City of Petaluma and the laws of the State of California relating to Elections there is called and ordered held an Election to submit to the voters the following proposed Charter Amendment which was presented to the City by petition signed by 2, 731 registered voters . ' Reso.88-251 NCS 1 of 2 1 Res. No ................................ N.C.S. Shall Section 63.5 of the Charter be amended to read "63.5. Utility users tax prohibited. Neither the City Council of the City of Petaluma nor any of its officers, agents or employees shall levy, impose or collect a tax upon the use in the City of Petaluma by any residential user, business user, industrial user or any other user, of telephone communication services whether intrastate or interstate, electrical energy, gas, water, garbage, cable television or any other use of utilities by residents of Petaluma"? 3. Said County Clerk is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said Regular Municipal and School Board Elections and said elections shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and the Statewide General Election ballot shall include the Mayoral, three Council, and three School Board seats; and, 4. The Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to issue instructions to the County Clerk to take any and all steps necessary in concert with the Petaluma City Clerk for the holding of said Consolidated Election including (but not limited to) preparation and handling of sample ballots, data processing, absentee ballots, precinct coordination, and canvassing the vote . 5. The City Clerk is directed to file certified copies of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and with the County Clerk. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
