of the City of Petaluma, Califiornia
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PETALUMA CALLING AND ORDERING A SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN THE CITY OF PETALUMA ON
JUNE 7, 1988, AND SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS A
MEASURE ON A PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of law, the City Council of the City
of Petaluma desires to call and order a special municipal election to be held
on June 7, 1988, for the purpose of submitting to the voters of the City of
Petaluma a measure on a proposed amendment to the charter of the City of
Petaluma .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
1. Pursuant to the requirements of the Charter of the City of Petaluma
and the laws of the State of California, there is called and ordered
held in the City of Petaluma, on June 7, 1988, a special municipal
election of the qualified electors of the City to vote on a measure
concerning a proposed charter amendment.
2. There is to be submitted to the voters, at such special municipal
election a measure concerning a proposed charter amendment, the exact
form of which shall read as follows
SHALL THE CITY OF PETALUMA CHARTER
BE AMENDED TO ADD TO ARTICLE IX THE
FOLLOWING SECTION 63.5?
"63.5 Adoption of Utility Users Tax.
A utility users tax within the City of Petaluma Yes
may be levied or imposed only after a majority
of the voters within the City of Petaluma,
actually voting on such measure, approve such
a utility tax . Such a utility tax may include a
tax upon the use in the City of Petaluma by any
residential user, business user, industrial
user, or any other user, of telephone
communication services whether intrastate , No
interstate, electrical energy, gas, water,
garbage, cable television or any other use of
utilities by residents of the City of Petaluma.
This is an exclusive right granted to the voters
of the City of Petaluma and neither the City
Council of the City of Petaluma nor any of its
officers, agents or employees shall have the
power to levy and/or impose such a utility
tax without such voter approval . "

3. The City Council shall by separate resolution request the Board of
Supervisors of the County of Sonoma to consolidate this special
municipal election with the Statewide primary election to be held on the
same date and to direct the County Election Department to hold such
consolidated election .
4. The polls for the special municipal election shall be open from seven
o'clock a.m. (7:00 a.m.) to eight o'clock p.m. (8:00 p.m.) of the day
set for the special municipal election
5. The City clerk is authorized and directed to give notice of the special
election and the measure to be voted on at the special election in the
manner required by law, and to make such other arrangements as may
be necessary to properly and lawfully conduct the election.
