HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 88-041 N.C.S. 02/16/1988rd Resolution No. $$-41 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING POLICY FOR PROVISION OF SIDEWALKS FOR NON-RESIDENTIAL SUBDIVISIONS /DEVELOPMENTS WHEREAS the City Council has found that provision of sidewalks is a necessity to provide safe pedestrian access to non-residential land uses; an d WHEREAS that not withstanding provisions of the Subdivision Ordinance which permits sidewalks to be omitted in lots exceeding one half acre and any previous policies in support thereof, the need for sidewalks in new subdivisions is now clearly evident; and WHEREAS it is the intent of the Council to likewise promote development of sidewalks where they do not now exist in partially developed areas, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that henceforth non-residential subdivisions of land and development of non-residential parcels created prior to the adoption of this policy shall provide sidewalks for safe pedestrian circulation as follows: a. Subdivisions of land within which or adjacent to which streets are to be improved shall provide a sidewalk on at least one side of the street consistent with the Standards outlined herein and. subject to review and approval of the City Engineer. b . Subdivisions of land where no street improvements are required shall provide sidewalks consistent with the Standards outlined herein and subject to review and approvel of the City Engineer. 88-41 Res. At such time as they are developed or existing buildings are upgraded, parcels which were created prior to this policy shall be developed with sidewalks consistent with the Standards outlined herein and subject to review and approval of the City Engineer. NOW THERE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that sidewalks shall be designed to: 1) provide a minimum of five (5) feet of width clear of all obstructions, e.g. poles, posts, utility boxes, etc., 2) where possible, provide a landscape strip between the sidewalk and curb line, and, 3) accommodate handicapped pedestrians and wheelchairs by providing ramps to street grade at intersections, driveways and private walkways. reso. sidewalks/reso8 Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
