RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
CITY ENGINEER
WHEREAS the City Manager as the Personnel Officer of the
City has submitted to the Council a revised job description for the
classification City Engineer in order to bring it intA conformity with the
present work assignment, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the job
description of City Engineer is hereby revised to estab]ish the duties in
accordance with the description in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a
part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken
pursuant to Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rulers and Regulations
(Rule IV, Sectinn 5) for classifications of the Personnel System, that the
notice of this action has been properly posted and that the City Manager
recommends this acton.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No.
7054 N . C . S . , as amended, and Resolution 87-189, is hereby amended to
include establishment of the revised classification of City Engineer,
effective February 1, 1988, with a sa]ary range of $3,321 - $4,872 per
month, and assigned ~ Unit 8 (Management) .

CITY ENGINEER
DEFINITION
Under executive direction, to plan and direct all activities of the
Engineering Department; responsible for the planning, design and
construction of all municipal public works; serves as Traffic Engineer; and
do related work as required .
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

and various city departments, public g"coups on proposed policies,
programs, projects and. improvements including; but not limited to, traffic,
transportation, water., sanitary sewer-, .solid. waste,. air pollution, capital
projects, storm drainage and land. development; performs engineering
related phases of environmental impact reviews; directs all engineering and
construction. inspectfln activities of the department; reviews and approves
all engineering plans,, specifications and documents and subdivision maps;
coordinates and directs engineering work involving streets., sidewalks,
water and sewer utility systems, drainage systems, treatment plants,
transportation and traffic; serves as technical advisor to other departments;
directs traffic engineering activities; maintains official maps, records and
files related to public works engineering. projects; maintains effective
management of department functions, records and operations;. supervises the
development- and evaluation of employees. and, advises on hiring, discipline
or termination of department personnel; prepares. and presents oral and
written reports,, studies, correspondence and recommendations; prepares

department annual. report, program of service--:, and tentative budget;
controls expenditures within approved- limitation`s,; attends., when necessary,
City Council and other meetings; coordinates department activi#~es and
maintains good working relationships with other departments,employees,
public and other agencies;. .
