I support the project as needed retail in town but hope the City will get reasonable concessions from the developer with respect to aesthetics, traffic and integration with downtown. • The Petaluma Neighborhood Association has made some good points with regard to aesthetics and supporting the concept of strong entry points in Petaluma. I would hate to see our city develop 101 and East Washington Street into the type of corridors we see in the south bay. • The Petaluma Downtown Association has previously asked the City and the Developer for accommodation in directing departing traffic downtown. Some downtown business will suffer from the presence of additional retail, but it was the opinion of the PDA board (when I last sat on it, and I assume they have the same opinion now) that detriment could be turned into a positive if out of town shoppers drawn to the new center could be reminded of the other shopping experience available downtown when they exit. ® As for traffic, East Washington is already congested. I hope the developer will be required to pay for a sizable piece of the improvements required to East Washington and alternative paths into their development.
