From: Crump, Katie Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 8:31 AM To: -City Clerk Subject: FW: Regarding East Washington Place EIR For the book From: John&Cynthia Rathkey [mailto:jc27post@gmail.com] Sent: Friday, January 01, 2010 8:56 AM To: Pamela; citymgr; Teresa Barrett; clavidglass@comcast.net; rnike4pet@aol.com; mthealy@sbeglobal.net; PDFARMER@ci.petaluma.ca.us Subject: Regarding East Washington Place EIR To all, I am writing as a concerned_ citizen about the EIR for East Washington Place. Please be clear that I am not opposed to developing the site, but have many concerns about the impacts the current proposal will have. I do not feel the draft EIR properly' addresses many of these impacts. First. of all, the EIR does not adequately address the potential addition of a large home improvement store, such as Friedman's. This will have dramatic .impact on the site and must be specifically addressed before this project is approved. t think the large parking lot is not sufficiently addressed in -the EIR either. As for the architectural design, it does nothing to try to integrate some of Petaluma's historical character. It looks like anytown USA with no effort to bring in the unique quality of our town. While I am not intrinsically opposed to the idea of a Target I think that the size and scale of this proposal is out of context. Also we still have no actual committrnent from Target that they will come? As for the swimming pool, is nobody noticing. that it is being completely overlooked as a "jewel" and needs to be better integrated into the traffic design. As a longterm lap swimmer„ I look at the site plan and cringe! I fear the exhaust will have a major impact on the air quality of people who are out to exercise! Petaluma can do so much better than this! Thank you for your time, Cynthia Rathkey 27 Post St
