INDEPENDENTS MONTH-JULY 2013
WHEREAS, Independents Month provides a time to celebrate the independence of the
members of the community of Petaluma and the entrepreneurial spirit represented by our core of
local independent businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma is home to many independently owned businesses that
provide a unique character to the City; and
WHEREAS, Petaluma's core of independently-owned businesses give back to the
community by providing goods, services,time and talent; and
WHEREAS, the health of independently owned businesses depends on support by our
friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, independently-owned businesses fuel the local economy by sourcing their
goods locally; and
WHEREAS, Petaluma's independent business owners and employees enrich community
members' shopping experiences with their knowledge and passion.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, David Glass, Mayor of the City
of Petaluma, along with the members of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of July
2013 as "Independents Month" and salute our community members and locally owned
independent businesses who are integral to the unique flavor of Petaluma and honor their efforts
to make Petaluma the place we want to live and work. ,
