Box 1776 Sebastopol, CA 95473-1776 Dear Mayor Gurney: MEMBERS OF THE BOARD PAUL L. KELLEY CHAIR VALERIE BROWN VICE CHAIR MIKE KERNS SHIRLEE ZANE EFREN CARRILLO With the recent termination of the Solid Waste Divestiture Project, it is important that we refocus our efforts to resolve our regional solid waste issues.. Such, resolution requires an openpublic process that engages both city and county elected officials as well as interested stakeholders. We invite your city's participation and request that you appoint a Council representative and alternate to serve on a joint task force to develop long-term,regional solid waste management options and projects. Our goal into have all members appointed in time to have a first meeting of this~taslc force in early February, 2010. Structure; meeting location, and frequency will be a decision' of the task force. Senior staff members knowledgeable in solid waste:are also welcome to participate in the task force meetings and serve as'technical advisors. With the help of your city, we are optimistic that such a task force will'be successful in defining the future of Solid Waste Management in Sonoma County. The County is hoping to present information regarding task force concepts to the Mayor and Council Members Association in January. Sincerely, ..p, ~ ., c v' ~ ~ ~ ,N . PAUL L.
