HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2008-110 N.C.S. 06/16/2008Resolution No. 2008-110 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California APPROVING THE INSTALLATION AND FUNDING FOR "DUBULL EAGULL" AND "CHERRY SODA" PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN THE REQUIRED CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma, by Ordinance 2202 N.C.S., has authorized the creation of public art program; and, WHEREAS, the intent of the public art program is to provide public art in public buildings and public open spaces; and, WHEREAS, the Public Arts Committee was approached by the Voight Family Sculpture Foundation and Robert Ellison with offers to loan public artworks to the City of Petaluma for the purpose of placing artworks on public property; and, WHEREAS, placement of the sculptures entitled "DuBull EaGull" and ``Cherry Soda" at the sites specified in this resolution is exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") in accordance with Section 15311 of the CEQA Guidelines, which applies to construction or replacement of minor structures accessory or appurtenant to existing commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Petaluma as follows: 1. The installation of the public artwork known as "DuBull Eagull" at the Petaluma Rail Depot and the public artwork known as "Cherry Soda" on the stone plinth at the west/northwest corner of 2°d and C Streets is hereby approved. Renderings of "DuBull EaGull" and "Cherry Soda" are hereby attached to and made a part of this resolution as Exhibit A. Site maps of the approved installation sites are hereby attached to and made a part of this resolution as Exhibit B. Placement of the "DuBull EaGull" sculpture at the Petaluma Rail Depot shall be Resolution No. 2008-110 N.C.S. Page 1 subject to authorization of Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit Board. 2. The City Council of the City of Petaluma hereby authorizes $20,000 in City funds to be utilized for the installation of these public artworks. 3. The City Council of the City of Petaluma hereby authorizes the City Manager to sign the transactional agreements between the City of Petaluma and both the Voight Family Sculpture Foundation and Robert Ellison to provide for placement of the sculptures in accordance with this resolution. Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
