HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 3169 N.C.S. 04/01/1963 EER:aw 3/29/63 RESOLUTION NO g N;a C a'S a; fi r'F n(I tA.P '� ]t69 _ C hk RESOLUTION URGING PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL NO, 590. • INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMANi `— � % �'.,. %/_ and SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN a ! iY' /fr v Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City: of Petaluma on the 1st day of April , 1963, WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma. is a charter member of the North Bay Cooperative,Library System; and WHEREAS, membership in said System has, brought numerous benefits to the Library and people of the City of Petaluma, to wit; The freeing,of 'library staff time in the Petaluma..Public Library through the processing of books in the,Processing Center maintained by the System; The extension of the limited book and periodical resources of the Peta- luma Public Library through he ability freely to borrow.' such materials from the other libraries belonging to the System;; The improvement of library se rv'ice to children in Petaluma through the advice and assistance of the Consultant in Children`s, Services employed by the System; plus Other benefits of the like kind; and. WHEREAS; the North Bay'Cooperative Library System is supported in large part by a -temporary granttof funds under the Federal Library Service Act, which, Act is administered in California by the State Librarian; and WHEREAS,. the City of Petaluma has experienced no impairment in its authority over the Petaluma-Public Library, nor any exercise of authority over' said library by the State Librarian or members of the System; and WHEREAS; the continued existence of the North Bay Cooperative Library- System is dependent upon an outside program of financial assistance to the System as the local systems do not have the required funds; -and °1° , • WHEREAS,, Assem61yBill No 590 'has._been introduced into the State Legislature by Assemblyman Jerome R. Waldie of A!iitioch,and others for the purpose. of establishing such a program of''State assistance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Councillof the City of Petaluma hereby endorses Assembly Bill No 590 and urges its passage bI Iy the Legis i • lature, , BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk, be, and she; is, :hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolutionto the California Library Assoei- ation; the League of California Cities, Assemblyman William T.
