EER;,aw -6/,2/63 RESOLUTION N©. •s�2?-1 NaCe,S'e 01G1NAL ; RESOLUTION DECLARING'- CANVASS OF RETURNS AND RESULT OF REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON JUNE 1.1,, 1963; f INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN � u d( t ait SECONDED BY COUNCIL ^ I, r ®,� A at a Regular Meeting-of the City Coinci l of the City "of Petalum on the 17th I day of June , 1963, WHEREAS„ a regular municipal election was held on June 'LI, 1963, in the City of Petaluma to pass upon a measure hereinafter set forth; which said mea- sure was duly and regularly submitted to the electors. of the City of Petaluma at said election; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Petaluma by Resolution No, 3174 N. C', S. duly passed and adopted on the 1st day of April, 1963. designated the precincts and polling places and appointed the members of the precinct boards for the regular municipal election to be held in said City of Petaluma on June 11, 1963, as required by law, for the "object and purpose of electing the following public officers of said City of Petaluma: Three (3) Councilmen for the full--term of four (4) years. Two (2) School Directors as members of the Board of .Education; and WHEREAS, there,was submitted a measure as hereinafter set forth to be voted upon,by the electors the regular municipal. election; WHEREAS, the regular municipal election was held on Tu isday,, June 11, 1963, in accordance with law, and the votes thereat received and canvassed, and, the returns thereof ascertained; determined and declared in all respects as required by law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That -the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma, be, and she is, hereby instructed to enter this resolution on the minutes, of this Council as a statement of the result of said election, 3 2..2/. 2, That the totalLnumber'of votes-cast in said. City at said 'regular municipal election was 8644 That 7 ballots were spoiled and not counted, 3,. Cans received the highest number of votes given for said office of Councilman for a full term and David W. Brainerd, John "Jack" Cavanagh,.J:: and Herbert C. Gans, were thereby elected.Council "for a full term of four years, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized to sign and deliver to each of them a certificate of election, and to administer the oath of office prescribed in the Constitution of the State of California. 7. That the Council hereby finds that William J. Patterson) and Brand T. Johnson received the highest number of votes,given to said office of School Directors (members of the Board of Education), and the City Clerk is herebyy authorized to sign and deliver to each of said persons the bath of office prescribed in the Constitution of the State of California, -5- . r .8,. That 1Vleasure"A' submitted at said election Was a-s/follows: "Shall 63` of Article 9 of the City Charter be amended to read as follows "Section 63. Limit of tax levy. a: During the month of September&of each year, the Council shall levy such a tax as may be necessary to raise revenue for the maintenance of the City and the several departments of the City. Except as herein Otherwise provided the said levy shall not exceed one dollar and fifty cents for each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation as the same appears upon the assess- ment roll. b, There shall be levied and Collected at the same time and in the same manner as other property taxes for I municipal purposes are levied and collected, the following additional.taxes: 10 A tax sufficient to meet all liabilities of the City for principal and interest, of all bonds or judgments, due or unpaid.or to become-,due during the ensuing fiscal year, which conytitute,genera1.obligations of the City. 20. A tax sufficient to pay the costs of the operation of the public library not to exceed 25 cents on each one hun- dred dollarsrof assessed valuation as the,same appears' upon the assessment toll. 3,, A tax sufficient;to pay the costs of the park and recreational facilities not to exceed 35 cents on each one hundred dollars Of assessed valuation as the same appears] upon the assessment roll. " • 9. That 929, votes were cast in favor of said measure* the electors of said City voting on said ,measure at said election and that 1689 votes were.cast against said measure by the electors of said City voting at said election and that said measure failed, I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the. City Petaluma, on the .17th day of June 1963, by the following vote; • AYES: COUNCILMEN BRAINERD, COLIN, CRINELLA, ELLIS, SOLOMON, VAN BEBBER AND MAYOR MATZEN. NOES: NONE. ABSENT: NONE.
