RESIGNATION OF MAYOR EVERETT A NOT EN, ; INTRODUCED BY COUNCIL AN y /0,,1- 4,1,- —<7c,:'/ and SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN E at an -_ - Adjourned Meeting of the City Council ofthe City of Petaluma on the 28th day of Y June. , 1963. • WHEREAS, Everet,A., Matzen, Mayor of the City of Petaluma, filed his resignation from the office of1Mayor with the City Clerk on the 17th day of June, t963; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council finds as follows: 1. On June 11, '1957, Mr. Everett A. Matzen was elected a member of the City Council of the City of Petaluma and officially commenced serving as such on July 1, L957; and on June 13, 1961, Mr. Everett A. Matzen accepted the office of Mayor of the City of Petaluma, Having been elected by the people of the City of Petaluma for the term ending,June 30, 1965, 2. During his terns of office he was instrumental in seeing to the conclusion of major ,projects undertaken by the City and among the more important projects completed during his term were the acquisition of the Water Department {-force the California Water Service Company; the preparation, completion and accept- ance of a General .Plan for this City and surrounding area; and the completion of a number of annexation proceedings, the major,being the Denman Annexation No. L with its accompanying installation of a sewage disposal trunk line which will open this area for industrial improvement to the great benefit of this City and its citizens. 3. The above projects were but a small portion of the devoted efforts made by Nir. Matzen on behalf of this City, He faced all problems of this City .res- I regard is clearly established,. The City Council on behalf of the citizens of this City regrets that the demands of Mr. Matzen's occupation require him to relinquish the office of Mayor. 4, The City Cotindil V/ sorely miss Everett A. Matzen and recog nines that his necessary resignation is a serious loss to its membership. The remaining members of the Council will tfuly miss the able and superior judgment he has manifested, and the warm, friendly and courteous manner he has expressed as a member of this body. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the resignation of Everett A. Matzen as Mayor of this City, be, and the same is, hereby regretfully accepted as of the 30th day of June, 1963, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council expresses the appre- ciation of this entire City for the faithful„ Untiring and unselfish service rendered by this outstanding citizen for the past several years, and that as a tribute to this service, it is hereby directed a suitable plaque'be presented to Mr. Matzen as a token of appreciation for those services.
