HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 10/7/2013 Fire Prevention Week K � r k T Ctt p Dt ' eta1uuta I 4 : mac roctatton I FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: OCTOBER 6-12,2013 WHEREAS,the City of Petaluma is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all its residents and visitors, and by providing fire safety information,the Petaluma Fire Department empowers its residentss with the information and skills needed to improve the safety of their home environments and the community at large; and WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are where people are at the greatest risk of experiencing a fire, with cooking being the leading caus: of home fires in the United States; and WHEREAS,two of every five home fires start in the kitchen where unattended cooking equipment is a factor in one-third of the reported cooking fires; and WHEREAS,residents should stay in the kitchen when frying food on the stovetop, keep a three-foot kid-free zone around cooking areas, and keep anything that can catch fire away from stove tops; and WHEREAS,the best way to protect homes from the effects of a residential fire is to have working smoke alarms and a fire sprinkler system installed; and WHEREAS,the 2013 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Prevent Kitchen Fires!"effectively serves to remind us to stay alert and use caution when cooking to reduce the risk of kitchen fires. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that I, David Glass, Mayor of Petaluma, along with the members of the Petaluma City Council, do hereby proclaim October 6-12, 2013 as Fire Prevention Week in the City of Petaluma, and urge everyone to check their kitchens for fire hazards and use safe cooking practices during Fire Prevention Week, as well as all year long, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Petaluma's Fire Department. • t 4 I air Dautd 9444, naya¢ _ LOW-C:e—) Ito ecrey 41111to,. •3S k
