HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 10/7/2013 El Dia de Los Muertos Celebration 41‘ _ K T 'City of u : otatumca I roctamatiou ► CELEBRATE EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS,PETALUMA,OCTOBER 5-NOVEMBER 3, 2013 WHEREAS, El Dia de los Muertos is a memorial celebration from Latin and South America when loved ones who have died are welcomed back as honored guests between October 31 and November 2; and WHEREAS,the Petaluma Arts Center is the umbrella organization for a cross-cultural committee that has planned a Citywide celebration of El Dia de los Muertos Petaluma since 2001; and WHEREAS, the celebration of El Dia de los Muertos builds bridges between communities in Petaluma and provides opportunities to remember loved ones who have died; and WHEREAS, by honoring those who have gone before us and the arts and culture of Latin and South America, we honor our shared humanity; and WHEREAS,residents of all ages, cultural and ethnic groups are finding Petaluma's celebration of El Dia de los Muertos to be comforting and engaging; and WHEREAS,through the celebration of El Dia de los Muertos Petaluma, the community is united in providing cultural offerings citywide. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, David Glass, Mayor of Petaluma, along with the members of the Petaluma City Council, do hereby proclaim October 5-November 3, 2013 as "El Dia de los Muertos, Petaluma 2013"in recognition of the cultural contributions of Latin and South America,the human need to honor loved ones who have died and the importance of building community to improve the quality of life for all residents in Petaluma. „4.-= Ad/ 9..0411.111_1/1-L, y. s Vaud 9a44, 7 ar , . alt, 10 A 1W- 4
