TO: Bill Thomas, Finance Director
FROM: Jim Carr, Director of Parks and Recreation
SUBJECT: Surplus Property: McNear Park Field Lights
The McNear Park ball field lights were taken down by direction of the City Council in 2000. The
six light poles and fixtures are, currently being stored at McNear Park, behind the Cavanagh
Recreation Center and in the Corporation Yard.
The Penngrove Social Fireman's Group who is trying to light Penngrove Park, has recently
approached the City about using the McNear Park lights.. I recommend that we declare the light
fixtures and poles surplus, and donate them to the Penngrove Social Fireman's Group. The
Penngrove group has indicated that they willremove the poles at their cost, which would not be
the case if a salvage company should contract to remove them.
If, in the future the City should need athletic field lights; we have been advised that is would be
cheaper to purchase new poles and fixtures in order to take advantage of new technology.
Therefore I see no advantage for the City to hold onto this equipment.
