RESOLUTION AMENDING CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO ESTABLISH A
NEW POSITION CLASSIFICATION OF AUTOMATED SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
AND DESIGNATING IT TO UNIT 3(TECHNICAL)
BE IT RESOLVED that the Classification Plan and Compensation
Plan as originally adopted pursuant to Resolution No. 6118 N.C.S., as
amended, and the cTassification titles and specifications as adopted
by Resolution No. 7054:N.C.S., are hereby atriended by resolution hereto
and marked Exhibit "A=' and made a part hereo_f), the salary range to be
$9.70 - $10.18 - $.T0.69 - $11.23 - $11.79 per hour.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this action is taken pursuant to
Personnel Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations (Rule IV,
Section 5) for classifications iricluded in tlie Competitive Service of
the Personnel System, that the notice of this action has been properly
posted and that the-City Manager recommends~t,his_action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the~Resolution No. 7054
N.C.S., as amended, is her-eby amended to,~i_nclu'de establishment of the
classification of Automaticed Systems Techriiciari and assigning this
classification 'to Unit~ 3(Technical) , effecti~e.~October 1, 1985.

AUTOMATED SYST,EIGIS TECHNICIAN
Under general super,vision, the Data Systems Technician, operates and
maintairis the .City';s~ data/word processing sy'stems~; provides technical staff
assistance; performs technical and specialized work in the design,
development, operation and coordination of the City's distributed data/word
processing sys.tems.
Examp.les of puties
May include, bu~t are riot limited to the fol'l;owing: schedule and perform
computer/word proce°ssor operations; coordinate the_ distributed systems with
user departmerits and provide 5taff sup,port to the user''s committee for both
data and word processing needs~; conduct training programs consistent with
identified needs;; develop and maintain ope"rating methods and controls;•
review system output to determine trends and; make recommendations for
hardware/software or pr-ocedural change's.
Knowledge &. Abilities
Knowled'ge of autornated systems envi~ronments.,, m,ethods, procedures,
pr.actices and equipment;. Abi'lity to analyze ;information, identify problems,
and develop logical conclusions:; commuriicate effeetively verbally and in
writing; plan arid coor-.dinate work; maintain effect;ive 'working relationships
wit.h other users; work independently or un,der clireet supervision; work
modified shifts as assigned::
Must be able to successful-ly complete City of Petaluma Police Department
background investigatiori,. ,
Experience and Ed'ucation: A High School diploma supplemented by
specialized courses in compixter/word processor operat~ions. One year of
experience in an au~€omated system environment.
