COMMUNITY RESILIENCE CHALLENGE-MAY 17-18,2014
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma is concerned about the health and well-being of its
residents and seeks to create a healthy, sustainable, and livable community; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, all Sonoma County cities and the County adopted the boldest
community greenhouse gas emissions reduction target in the United States—25 percent below
1990 levels by 2015; and
WHEREAS, last year, the fourth annual Community Resilience Challenge(formerly the
350 Home & Garden Challenge) inspired thousands of people across Sonoma County to
complete 3,558 actions to save water, grow food, conserve energy, and build community; and
WHEREAS, Daily Acts is a key partner,providing programs and services that educate
residents, students, businesses, and community leaders about sustainable practices; and
WHEREAS, local governments greatly influence the opportunities for growing, eating,
and sharing healthy food and becoming more water and energy-efficient through key powers
over land and water use planning and policies, economic and community development, parks and
recreation, and other community services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, David Glass, Mayor of Petaluma,
along with the members of the City Council, do hereby declare the weekend of May 17-18, 2014
as the Community Resilience Challenge weekend and encourage all residents to work together
for a healthier, more vibrant and viable future to make Sonoma County the healthiest county in
the State of California.
