HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 5/5/2014 (5) 4, _4101......010- lifilliP. ; , c.,. ..‘ , ,.,- K 'Cttp of 1 eta: ulna hI: roctainattoIt i ) BATTLE CANCER 1N PETAL UMA WEEK-MAY 11-17,2014 WHEREAS, blood cancers are the #3 cancer killer in North America; and WHEREAS, approximately every four minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer; and WHEREAS, approximately every ten minutes someone dies from a blood cancer; and WHEREAS, an estimated combined total of 140,310 people in the US were expected to have been diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma last year; and WHEREAS, leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children, adolescents and young adults under the age of 20; and WHEREAS, over 1,012,500 people in the United States are living with, or are in remission, from blood cancers; and WHEREAS, the Leukemia& Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit)health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services; and WHEREAS, several events are taking place in May in Petaluma in support of the LLS: a spin class on May 9th at Active Sports; a yoga class on May 14th at Renew Studio; a workout class on May 15th at LaSalle Fitness; a bootcamp class on May 19 at Luma; a silent auction on May 21St at Active Sports; a Hill challenge on May 31; finishing with a Dine-and-Donate on June , 5th at Ray's Deli.
