SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL FLAG DAY, JUNE 14, 1984
WHEREAS, the Continental Congress of the United States adopted a
National Flag on June 14, 1777; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress officially designated June 14 as
National Flag Day in 1949; and
WHEREAS, the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House has officially
sponsored Flag Week since 1952; and
WHEREAS, the National Flag Day Foundation, in Baltimore, Maryland
was created in 1982 to plan National Flag Day ceremonies and to encourage
patriotism by promoting the
PAUSE FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
and
WHEREAS, this year on June 14, 1984 at 7 P.M. (EDT), Americans
everywhere in the nation, led by President Reagan and Governors of the 50
states, are asked to pause to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of
the United States of America;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Petaluma urge
its members, their families and their friends to join in this effort.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council 6y the Charter of said City.
