RESOLUTLON TO AMEND THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY
WHEREAS the City Manager as the P..'ersonnel Officer of the City
has submitted to fhe.Council a revised job description for the class-
fication Administrative Secretary in order to-bring it into conformity
with the present work•a-ssignments, and ~.
WHEREAS, the Council finds that the notice has been posted
as required by law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the jo,b description of
the Administrative Secretary is hereby revised to establish the duties
in accordance with fhe descr'ption in E-xhibit."A" attached hereto and
made a part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Reso~luton N-o. 6118 N.C.S. be, and
the same. is hereby amended to reflect the j''ob classification attached
hereto.

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY
Definition
Under direction, to do secretarial and resp.ons-ibl'e.clerical work;
to perform a variety of routine adm~ni~stratve tasks requiring
considerable discretion and judgment; and to do r. elated work as
required.
Examples of Duties
Screens visitors, telephone calls and mail; gives information to the
public or directs reques s to appropriate departmen s; takes dictation
and transcribes correspondence, agenda-s, minutes,, schedules, ordinances,
resolutions, documents, memoranda, policy stafements, speeches and
reports; arranges :me'eti'ngs and conferences.; composes and types letters
and memoranda [independently from. brief instrucai,ons] in conformance
with Gi ty policies..; 'makes appointments ~ rev~eavs cl a.ms;.prepares neu~s
releases.; coordinates a variety of County and State matters pertaining
to the C`ty;. maintains v'ari'ous records; assists i'n te'sting and' inter-
view'_ng,of job app.l:icants; prepares a variety of statistical reports as
requested;. assists with the preparation of budgets, annual' reports,
programs of service, and'vari.ous other documents; assists administrators
with routine administrative detai'Ts; coordinates workload among clerical
staff and' may supervise clerical personnel:; sets up and maintains
complicated filing systems.
Employment Standards
f ducation and Exper-a:ence Any combination, equivalent to graduation 'from
high school and fibe.years of increasingly responsible experience in
secretarial and clerical work.
Knowledges and Abilities: Knowledge o.f modern office practices and equipment;
knowledge of .general. personnel and budgetary practices; knowledge of the
func'tions' organization and policies of the City; ability to work under
pressure; abi'l.ty to take dictation at a speed of not less than 110 words
per minute and to transcribe it accurately and rapidly; ability to type
accurately-from clear copy at a speed o'f not less than 60 word a minute;
abiT"ity to spel'1 correctly and to use good grammar.
