Examples of Duties O~erates a water filter plant and related equipment~; operates and makes repairs to ehemi~cal feeders to rec~ulate the flow of alum, chlorine, hardness, turbidity.and othe.r chemi~cal characteristics; operates and back~Nashes sand filters dail.y; operates and re~airs booster pumps and producing wells, records we;ll levels; lubricates and oils operati'ng equipment as needed; maintains appropriate water Tevels in dis;tribu;tio'n reservoirs; operates reservoirs and associated sur.face water s•upply facilities includin~ flumes, raw water intakes, and reservoi`r discharge tower; reguiates gates and operates booster pumps to ad~ust fToa~s and leve~ls of iNater; changes recording charts and records amount of water pumpe~i daily; reads production meters at pressure reducing stations; maintains daily and monthly productio`n `records. Employment Standards Education and.Experience:: Must possess the certification level of Grade II, requi~red by the State of Ca]ifornia, and ha.ve t~~~o years experience in a water filter treatment ~lant. Additio.nally, two years of exp:erience in t'he operation and maintenance of electrical motors, pumps, or simi7ar mechanical equipment, preferably in a public water system is desirable. Knowledges and Abilities: Know-ledge:of the principles of electric motor and pump controls; knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pumps used in water distributi,on systems; knowledae of the common chemicals used in water distribution sy.stems and practices of water purifica,tion; knowled;ge of the safety procedures involved in handling of h:igh pressure chlorine gas; ability to make electrica1 and mechanical repairs to pump.ing systems, ability to make chemical tests; abilit,y to demonstrate a high degree of inechanical aptitude; ability to read meters, gauges and recording charts and keep ad:equate records. pril, 1983
