of the City of P~taluma, California
RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE RATES AND CHARGES FOR THE COLLECTION OF
GARBAGE AND RUBBISH IN THE CITY OF PETALUMA, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 8..16 OF THE PETALUMA MUNICIPAL CODE AND
REPEALING RESOLUTION NO . 8976 N. C. S. IN ITS ENTIRETY
WHEREAS, the Petaluma Refuse Company, Inc. , has presented to this
City Council and to a duly appointed Council Cbmmittee exhibits and oral
evidence indicating that the present existing charges for the removal and
collection of garbage witliin this City are insufficient to provide it with
reasonable profits; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds, after- hearing and examining all the
evidence, that the r.ates and charges for the removal and collection of
garbage and rubbish sliould be increased;
NOW, TH~REFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that pursuant to Chapter 8.16 of
the Petaluma Municipal Code, the maximum rates and charges for the
removal and collection of garbage and rubbish are hereby established as
follows :
RESIDENCES -- REGULAR WEEKLY COLLEGTTONS
1- 32 gallon container $4.50 per month
2- 32 gallon container $7.70 per month
3 or more 32 gallon containers $7.70 plus $3.20 per each
can ove"r 2 cans/mo.
Needy Senior Citizens
1- 32 gallon container $3, 75 per month
Needy Senior Citizen is d'efined as a subscriber 62 years or older
who receives Supplemental Security Income ( S. S. I.) and Medi-Cal
benefits .
Lawn Clip:pings, etc. In a.ddition, the official collector shall
collect once a week lawn cuttings, dead plants and g:arden trim-
mings in an amount .equivalent to one 32 gallon.,container, provided
the same are placed iri an appropriate conta~in'er on the planting
strip or on the property within five (5) feet of' the street
right-of-way. Tree~ t-rimmings not over two (2) inches in diameter
and five (5) feet in length either bundled or placed in appropri-
ate containers near the curb shall also be collected once a week.
Bundled newspapers will also be collected once a week.

Free Spring an:d Fall Clean Up. In the Spring and Fall of each year
the official coilector shall publicly arinounee a free City-wide cleanup
period during which time the official colleetor will cause to be de-
posited at corivenient loeations throughout the City large bins, where
citizens can deposit waste. materials without charge.
Residential Compaction Units . Whenever a<compaction unit is utilized
in connection wifh any residential type dwelling, two (2) com-
pacted garbage, rubbish and refuse collection bags shall be deemed to
be the equivalent ~of one (1) thirty-two (32) gallon garbage can for
the purpose of fixing and determining the monthly collection rate.
Excess Weight., Collection charges ,for the removal of large amounts of
trash and rubbish which are the results of unusual activity and the
result of no"rmal daily activity shall be negotiated between the
official collector and the person desiring the rerrioval of same.
Ghar-ges for Excess 5ervice. T'here is hereby established a charge of
1.70 for any collection_ of garbage, wet garbage, rubbish or refuse,
for each thirty=tw.b (3`2) gallpn can or fraction thereof, in excess of
the quantities~ included in the monthl.y rates paid by the occupant or
owners', proVided the collection is made at the same time that the
collection is made for the reg.ular garbage, wet garbage, rubbish or
refuse as established for the owner or occupant involved.
BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS -- (including hotels, motels,
restaurants, ..hospitals and all other business establishments. )
Rates for collection 'in cans:
1. A monthly charge -of. $4.75 per 32 gallon can (picked up once a
week) sha11 be coll,ected. ~

2, Billings ,may be based tip,on the average number of can~s of
garbage, wet garbage, rubbish and refuse r..emoved. The term
auerage number of cans shall mean' the number of cans
collected. per". year divided~ by b2.' This billing method may be
~ used for collections which may vary substantially during a twelve
rnonth period.

Unusual accumulations of a one-tiine nature, and not the result of normal
activities shall be charged for at a rate to be riegotiated between the
parties. ~
APARTMENTS AND MOBILE HOME PARKS
One collection per week at the rate of 4..5;0,per each can/unit.
SCHOOLS
School district rates for Petaluma High S.chool District', Petaluma
Elementary School District and Old A~dobe U'niorn S'chool District shall
be determined by Petalurna Refuse Company and those districts
individually.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the appropriate ~officials of the
company should acknowledge the provisions :of this resolution by
affixing their signatures and appropriate seal to the original of this
resolution .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the rates and charges established
herein shall become effective immediately upon passage of this
resolution .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8976 N.C.S. be, and
the same is hereby repealed in its entirety.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall be published
pursuant to Section 8.16:230 of the Petaluma Municipal Code.
