Depa"rtment, r.espons,ib;le for the planning, design and construction of all
municipal public works, inc]ading the water supP:ly, waste disposal,
street mainten'ance,engineering construction ancf l:and development; serves
as Traffi'c Engineer; to ca~rry. out the duties as Director of Public Works
where the City Charter or Code uses the term or ref ers to Director of
Public Works when requiring e g.raduate eng,in'eer or a regist'ered civil.

Examples of Duties
Conters with the C,ity'Manager on proposed policies, programs, projects and
improvements, includi,ng, but not limit`ed to traffic, wat~er, san'itary and
storm sewer, solid waste; air pollution, park development, cap'ital projects,
and planning; performs engi:neering related phas;es.of environmental imPact
reviews; direc_ts al.l engin'eering,~constructi.on in,spection and operational
activit.ies of the .depa,r'tment; revi.'ews and approv,es all engineering plans,
specifications and documents; coordina.tes and di'rects engineering work
involving street`s; _sidewalks, water and sewer utility sys.tems, d'rainage
systems, civic st.ructures, treatmen.t p1ants~, general °traosportation and
traffic; serves as techni~al a,dvisor to other 'departments.; directs traffic
engineering activi`ties;; maintain;s of.ficial maps; records.and files related
to publ ic`works engi;neering peojects; maintains ,e.f"f.ective management of
department funct'ions,, records and operations; svpervises tfie development
and evaluation of emPl,oyees and advises on hiriog, di's.ci;P<:line or termination
of department personne~l; prepares and presen:t;s ora;l and written reports,,
studies, correspond;ence and re,commendations; prepar'es, i;n conjunction
with .subordinate departments, annual reports, programs of service, and
