HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2010-075 N.C.S. 05/27/2010Resolution No. 2010-075 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN B~' REVISING THE CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONS OF PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER II, PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER III, AND PARK MAINTENANCE LEAD WORKER WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma wishes to keep current its Classification Plan; and amendments and/or revisions to the Classification Plan are effective upon approval by the City Council; and, WHEREAS, the City Manager/Personnel Officer has determined that the certain duties, certification requirements, and. responsibilities are appropriately allocated to the classifications of Park Maintenance Worker II, Park Maintenance Worker III, and Park Maintenance Lead Worker (attached hereto and marked Exhibit A, Exhibit B, and Exhibit C); and, NOW, 'T'HEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby approve the amendments to the Classification Plan as written in this Resolution including the amendment in the Competitive Service of the Personnel System; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this action is taken pursuant to Personnel Code 3.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations (Rule IV-Classification) and, that the notice of this action has been properly posted. Class Characteristics General supervision is provided by the Parks and Landscape Manger; responsibilities may include the indirect supervision of support staff. Parks Maintenance Worker I The entry-level class in the series that initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in park and tree maintenance. This class is alternately staffed with Parks Maintenance Worker II. Parks Maintenance Worker II The journey-level class in this series, fully competent to perform the full range of park and landscape maintenance duties. This class is distinguished from Parks Maintenance Lead Worker who provides direction and work review to several Parks Maintenance Workers and/or crews. Essential Duties, Skills, and Demands of the Position The duties, skills, and demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties Perform general grounds maintenance of raking, sweeping, garbage pick up, and rest room cleaning Mow, edge, trim, aerate, fertilize, and renovate large and small turf areas. Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems. Perform pest control operations using Integrated Pest Maintenance (IPM) techniques, which include identification and diagnoses of pest problems. Maintain, construct, and repair park structures. Keep tools & equipment in proper working order. Resolution No. 2010-075 N.C.S. Page 2 Identify and report safety hazards. Assist with maintenance of City pools. Respond to questions and complaints from the public. Use of equipment to include, but not limited to, dump trucks, tractors, riding mowers, walk behind mowers, edgers, chain saws, weed eaters, and blowers. Perform related duties as assigned. Skills/Abilities: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Comprehend and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Class Characteristics General supervision is provided by the Parks and Landscape Manager; responsibilities may include the indirect supervision of support staff. Parks Maintenance Worker III is the advanced skilled level class of the Parks Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents are capable of independently performing highly skilled parks maintenance duties. In addition, the work may include providing direction to an assistant or small crew on a project basis. This class is distinguished from the Lead Parks Maintenance Worker in class in that the latter is a working lead level responsible for assigned parks maintenance staff. Parks Maintenance Lead Worker is the working lead level in park maintenance work in which incumbents plan, schedule, assign, and direct the work of crews engaged in park maintenance work and provide technical assistance as necessary. This class is distinguished from Parks and Landscape Manager, which is responsible for citywide day-to-day parks maintenance activities.
