OF SENIOR CITIZEN'S CENTER ~- LUCCHESI PARK
WHEREAS, the Ad Ho.c Senior Citizen Committee assisted in the
devel:opment of a po'licy .for the use of the 'neNr Senior Citizen Center
at Lucches"i ~Ra;rk;, and, , : ~ ~ ~ . '
" WHEREAS, the Recreati~on~,+ Mus~ic and' Parks .Commi.ssion has reviewed
the aforementioned policy and 'recommends :its adopti~on to the City

Council;
NOW, THEREFORE`S.BE IT~ RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approves
the Senior Citizen Center_;•Policy fo"r the use of said facili~ty a-t Lucchesi.:

GENERAL POLICY FOR USE OF NEW.SENIOR CfTIZENS CE~ITER ~
LUCCHESI PARK
Purpose
Th'e purpose~ bf the Sen,i;or C i.t i~zens Center i s to' offer a pu61 i c fac i I i ty for
the seniors, 55.years and older, who desire to parti.cipate in leisure, social
and community services .in,a fa:cility strictly for s~eni'.ors. Use of the facility
is sole'ly reguiated by the City of Petaluma under the direction of the
Recreation Department.
Generai Us~ Conditions ~
The facil!~ity is under the~direction of the Recreat'iron Department staff and alI
use condi;tions shall be established and enforced by, the Recreation Department
staff.
1. Only seniors, 55 years.and older, a~re entitled to use the facility and
pa:r.ti-cipate i~n the progra~ms. Wheel chair participants under the required
age may be.eligible for specific programs, i.e: social services, etc.
2. The hours of opening are establis'hed by the`Rec'reat'ion Department and can
be adaPted to specific uses.
3. The facility wiJl be made available for special rentals by senior members
only on non-scheduled use~hours. The fees wi~ll be esta.blished based on
utility use, staff, clean-up, s;upplies; etc. Th°ese rentals will be the
sole responsibility of the senior reserving the -facility who wiil also
have clean-up respons:ibilit.y.
4. Any scheduling o-f the use of the Center, other than established drop-in
hours, must have.sta~ff app;roval. ~ .
5. Any user will have t.he responsibility of Leavin,g fhe area in a neat and .
orderly manner afte:r each use. Major maintenance will be provided by .the
City. ~
6. Equipment and supplies will be provicJed by the C.ity. However, special
programs, refreshments; cra_ft items,.etc, will be cost co.vering to
minim;ize operafiional.costs of the facility and staff. Mem6ers may bring
sack lunch;es, and beverage.s will be available at a minimum fee.
7, AIl prog~r~m announcements and bul.letins must have staff approval prio,r
to post'i ng.
8. There: w.il:i: be no membership fees; however, a daily use fee donation will
be a.s'ked to~help re~lace damac~ed, lost or worn'equ.ipment and su:pplies in
the Cepter,~ In additio'n, a special fund would 'be established for
support,group donation.s to provide needed equipment and servic:es:. A,
Pl.a.que .cies.ign~ting the donors would be placed on the wall of the foyer.
*Donatipns are not mandatory in the Center.

Senior Proc~r~m Folicies ~
'. The programs provided in the Center s'hall` be:those which.provide leisure,
social, mental and physi;eal health activi`t`ies for.seniors. Activities shall
- be one of the following: - ~
1. Leisure activities., which include drop-in progr-ams,~eraft time,~lo.ungin,g,
tab l e poo I, t,e l.ev i s i on, ,I i bra ry, etc. . "
2. Fee char,,ge.:p~r-ograms to cover cost of materials, mileage, statf, etc. only.
Every attempt will be made.to u;se volunteers in the.programs to minimize
costs.~ .
3. Recreatio;na) p:rograms whi-ch inelude excursions, tournaments, contests,
exh;ibits; etc.
4. Special fund ra°ising activities to bene.fit the Center.
5. Social' services provi'ded by Coanc'i'~I on Aging, People.Se~viee Center, etc.
Staffinq" ~
The Center wil,l be staffed-b,y the-Recreation Depar-tment.. Any paid or volunteer
stafif inembers wili ,be respons.i_ble to the Recrea.tion.DePa;rtment. The -
Recreation Department will be responsible to recruit,.train, hire a,nd accept
ser-v i ces of vo l unteers i n, or.der to ma i nta i n.and ;ope:"rate; the faci I i ty. The
caretaker will not p.rovide staff.resPonsibility to t,he Center. However, the
- the careta;kers will.-prov'ide security for the s.ite and be responsible.to see
~ the facility is secure for the evening.
A seven (7) member advisory committee of senior cit"izens will be appointed 6y
the Mayor and the City Counci.l, who wil.l mee,t at I,easf bi-monthly~'and other
times on call by the Recreati~on Director, or when advice is needed for the
activities and car-e of the Center. ~ ~
