of the City of Petaluma, California
P, RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PET.ALUMA CITY COUNCIL
REQUESTING THAT SOUTHERN PACIFIC TRRNSPORTATION
COMPANY REPLACE TRESTLES OVER THE PETALUMA RIVER
NEAR LAKEVILLE STREET TO DECREASE HYDRAULIC
CONSTRAINTS IN THE PETALUMA RIVER.
WHEREAS, the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, a subsidiary of
Southern Pacific Transportation Company, owns and maintains trestles
which traverse the Petaluma River; and
WHEREAS, these trestles are of such design as to impede the flow in
the Petaluma River during times of increased runqff, particularly the
trestle located on the immediate upstream and downstream sides of the
Lakeville Street bridge; and
WHEREAS, the trestles could be redesigned and constructed to reduce
the number of support pilings and improve the hydraulics in the river,
and
WHEREAS, this City Council is committed to improving, where
feasible and practicable, the hydrau.lies in.the Petaluma River;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council, City~of Petaluma
requests that the Southern Pacific Transportati.on Company consider
seriously the impact of 1ts trestles on the~river-~and move at all haste
to replace them wi'th a structure which gives more ~design consideration
to decreasing hydraulic constraints in the Petaluma River.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Councii by the Charter of said City.
