Re: The proposed development at East Washington
We live just 3 blocks from the proposed development and are not in favor of the
development that the Planning Commission approved for East Washington Place. We
prefer to reverse floe decision of the Council, in favor of a less `corporate' development.
Any development at East Washington should prefer tourism and. the growth of local
business. Consider the-fine work of towns such as Healdsburg that have developed a
quaint style that attracts tourists, instead of the vulgar strip mall now being proposed.
Businesses interested could xent some of the many empty spaces now open in the Kohl's
development. We don't need more of this style of growth, such as Kohls and the
AutoMall, which is ablight on the good town of Petaluma. There is empty office and
business space all overEastSide Petaluma, many unrented spaces in The Golden Eagle;
the newly developed downtown is practically a ghost town.
Thank you for the good work that you do to help our town grow, but please consider
towns like Fort Bragg and Healdsburg which have preferred to grow around locally-
owned business, and. avoid expanding the already-too-high number of empty spaces in
our current developments, and repeal this approval of the Planning Commission.
Thank you,
