HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2002-030A N.C.S. 02/25/2002 Resolution No.2002-030~.C.S. 2 of the City of Petaluma, California 3 4 RESOLUTION AUTIIORIZING TIIE CITY MANAGER TO ADD ONE 6 POLICE SERGEANT AND ONE POLICE OFFICER TO TIIE PETALI.TMA ~ POLICE DEPARTMENT'S TRAFFIC SAFETY UNIT s 9 WI-IEREAS, the Petaluma City Council, on behalf of the citizen of this community, has to established traffic safety as a priority; and tt t2 WIIEREAS, the Petaluma Police Department, in keeping with this priority, established 13 a Traffic Safety Program in 1997 and received financial support from the California t4 Office of Traffic Safety to create the Petaluma Police Department's. Traffic Unit; and is l6 WIEIEREAS, since 1997 the demands placed upon the Police Department to respond to l~ issues related to Traffic Safety and enforcement have continued to grow considerably; t s and 19 20 WFIEREAS, incidents of fatal and injury collisions and collisions wherein alcohol 2l consumption is an associated factor remain abnormally high; and 22 z3 WIIEREAS, the Petaluma Police Department has prepared a comprehensive Traffic 24 Safety program designed to combat traffic collisions and incidents of D.U.I. with 2s financial support amounting to $149,983.36; and 26 27 WIIEREAS, an essential component of the aforementioned program includes an 2s increase in Traffic Unit staffing in the form of one Police Sergeant and one Police z9 Officer. 30 3t NOW, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby 3z authorized to hire one Police Sergeant and one Police Officer for the purpose of adding 33 these positions to the existing Petaluma Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit. 34 Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
