RESOLUTION #9608 NCS CANVASS SPECIAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 2, 1982 RESOLUTION NO. 9608 N.C.S. DECLARING CANVASS OF RETURNS AND RESULTS OF ~THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 1982 WHEREAS, on the Petaluma City Council adopted Resolution No. 9527 N. C. S. ordering a special election to be held in conjunction with the November, 1982, Statewide General Election; and WHEREAS, the following questions were referred to the voters at the Special Municipal Election: CITY OF PETALUMA MEASURE B Shall the Charter of the City of Petaluma be amended to change the date of the Regular Municipal Election and the date of the Petaluma Board of Education Election from the second Tuesday in June of each odd numbered year to the statewide General Election in November of each even numbered year and extend the terms of each of the incumbent members of the City Council, Mayor and members of the Board of Education for a period of approximately eighteen months . The text of said amendment is set ~forth in Exhibit "A" of Resolution No. 9527 N. C. S., adopted by the City ~~o November 22, 1982 Council of the City of Petaluma on August 2, I982, and is now on file in the office of the City Clerk. CITY OF PETALUMA MEASURE C Shall the Charter of the City of Petaluma be amended to change the date of the Regular Municipal Election and the date of the Petaluma Board of Education Election from the second Tuesday in June of each odd numbered year to the regular election, as provided for in the California Elections Code, in November of each odd numbered year and extend the terms of each of the incumbent members of the City Council, Mayor, and members of the Board of Education for a period of approximately six months. The text of said amendment is set forth in Exhibit "B" of Resolution No. 9527 N. C. S., adopted by the City Council of the City of Petaluma on August 2, 1982, and is now on file in the office of the City Clerk. WHEREAS, the Special Municipal Election was held in the City of Petaluma on November 2, 1982; and, WHEREAS, the votes from said election were received and canvassed by the Sonoma County Elections Department (Exhibit A* to this resolution) , and the returns thereof were ascertained and declared in all respects as required by law: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Petaluma as follows : (1) The City Clerk is hereby instructed to enter this Resolution on the minutes of this meeting as a statement of the result of said election ; (2) The total number of ballots cast in the City at said Special Municipal Election was as follows : Measure B Measure C Inside City Limits 11,484 11,142 Outside City Limits 4, 229 4, 097 Total number of Ballots 15,713 15,239 2 1~4 I November 22, 1982 (3) The total number .of Registered Voters is: _ Inside City Limits 18 , 495 ' Outside City Limits ~ 7, 710 Total Registered Voters 2~ (4) Measure B, having received a higher majority of votes than Measure C, is hereby declared to have passed and Charter Section 4- General and Special Municipal Elections, Charter Section 8- Certificate of Election, Charter Section 15 - Mayor's term of office, and Charter Section 16 - Council- men's term of office are declar,ed to be amended to read as set forth in Resolution No. 9527 N.C.S. Exhibit A* adopted by the Gity Council on August 2, 1982. (See~ exhibit A to these minutes. ) Moved by Vice Mayor Perry. Seconded by Councilmari Balshaw. ~ Ayes: Balshaw/Battaglia/Cavanagh/Harberson/Perry/Mayor Mattei ~ Absent: Bond (Introduced by Vice Mayor Perry, seconded by Councilman Balshaw) RECESS Cquncil recessed to a Study Session to diseuss the possibility of establishing a Transit Ceriter near the Municipal Swimming Pool on the Fairgrounds property and to discuss the use of old Fire Station #2 located at D and Payran Streets .
