As a long -time member of the community, and as both a student and practitioner in the
planning field, I have followed Petalumma's planning efforts with great interest. In
integrating new - urbanist planning concepts and sustainability into :City plans, while preserving
the valuable historic context that Petaluma its unioue.sense of Place, Petaluma has
provided a successful example of community based planning. I would like to participate in the
continued intelligent planning for our community's future. I believe there is an opportunity to
further integrate and modernize'the city plan while increasing Petaluma's character as a
complete city, replete with integrated transportation, services, housing, and employment that
will enhance Petaluma's prestige as modern city. The discounted areas adjacent to the
SMARTrail' line and Hwy 101 that'now divide the City can become .focal points as new
corn, nrnun:ity centers that will unite Petaluma, and provide jobs, housing, and—retail balance.
Although I am 'a transplant to Petaluma, my wife's family has been in the community since the
1880's. I am fortunate to have found deep roots in Sonoma County and Petaluma.
On an unrelated note: I was a student coauthor of the SSU 2002 Solar.Sebastopol Initiative -
A plan to supply 25 percent of the electricity consumed in Sebastopol from photovoltaic
sources that would have the effect of significantly shifting Sebastopol's consumption to 'green'
electricity.
