5 AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A SONOMA COUNTY
6 AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION AND OPEN SPACE DISTRICT GRANT FOR $2
7 MILLION FOR ACQUISITION OF LAND ON THE
8 MCNEAR PENINSULA AND RECREATIONAL AND RIPARIAN HABITAT
9 ENHANCEMENT IMPROVEMENTS ON MCNEAR PENINSULA AND FURTHER
1o PROVIDES AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE
11 OPEN SPACE DISTRICT SHOULD A GRANT BE AWARDED.

14 WHEREAS, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District has
15 announced a competitive program and availability of funds for grants in the area of land
16 acquisition for open space preservation and recreation opportunities; and
17
18 WHEREAS, said grants are intended to help preserve irreplaceable open space lands in
19 perpetuity in a way that provides environmental enhancement; and
20
21 WHEREAS, the City will work toward attaining additional funding to complete the acquisition
22 and implementation of the project; and
23
24 WHEREAS, the City has expressed a commitment to the implementation of the River Access
25 and Enhancement Plan as adopted in 1996 through the funding of various improvements and the
26 requirement of improvements as a condition of project approval for properties adjacent to the
27 River; and

29 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma has concluded the project proposed for funding with the grant
3o funds would be environmentally beneficial as def ned in the adopted River Access and
31 Enhancement Plan and the Petaluma General Plan 1987-2005; and

33 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Petaluma approves the
34 application for a Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District grant and
35 hereby directs the City Manager to continue the processing of a grant application with the
36 SCAPOSD in the amount of $2 million.

5 If offered such a grant, the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to negotiate .and
6 accept the grant and execute an agreement with the SCAPOSD for the administration of the grant
7 funds pursuant to the .grant contract.
