APPROVING COMPENSATION TO THE BEST WESTERN PETALUMA INN
AND THE BEACON SERVICE STATION TO MITIGATE CONSTRUCTION
IMPACTS FROM THE PROPOSED MCDOWELL BOULEVARD/E. WASHINGTON
STREET TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, AND AUTHORIZE T>FIE
CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE THE COMPENSATION AGREEMENTS
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma is scheduled to construct. transportation. improvements at the
intersection of McDowell Boulevard and E. Washington Street; and,
WHEREAS, the improvements may have an impact on business near the intersection; and
WHEREAS, these impacts should be mitigated by the city of Petaluma; and
WHEREAS, the Best Western Petaluma Inn has twelve rooms situated along McDowell Boulevard
South where pavement replacement at the intersection is expected to occur at night from 7:00 p.m. to
6:00 a.m. for approximately one month; and
WHEREAS, it is not reasonable to expect that these rooms could be rented during the night time
construction period; and,
WHEREAS, the Beacon Service Station is located at the northwest corner of the intersection; and,
WHEREAS, the City's contractor and the utility companies will need a large portion of the service
station site to construct the road widening improvements and relocate the utilities; and,
WHEREAS, using the service station site as a staging area for construction will minimize the impacts
to the traffic using the intersection; and,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City council of the city of Petaluma that the Best
Western Petaluma Inn and the Beacon Service Station will be compensated for construction impacts
from the proposed McDowell Boulevard/E. Washington Street Intersection Transportation Improvement
Project, and the city Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate the compensation agreements.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said Ciry.
