RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN
AND ESTABLISHING THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION
PARRS MAINTENANCE LEAD WORKER
DESIGNATED TO UNIT 2 (MAINTENANCE)
BE IT RESOLVED that the Classification Plan and Compensation Plan, as
originally adopted pursuant to Resolution No. 90-209 N.C.S., and the classification titles and
specifications as adopted by Resolution No. 90-147 N.C.S., are hereby amended by establishing
the classification of Parks Maintenance Lead Worker (as attached hereto and marked Exhibit "A"
and made a part hereof).
BE IT FURTHEit RESOLVED that this action is taken pursuant to Personnel
Code 2.04.020 and Personnel Rules and Regulations (Rule IV, Section 5) for classifications
included in the Competitive Service of the Personnel System, that the notice of this action has
been properly posted and that the City Manager recommends this action.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Resolution No. 90-147
N.C.S., as amended, is hereby amended to include the classification of Parks Maintenance Lead
Worker and assigning this classification to Unit 2 (Maintenance), with a salary range of $20.09 -
$21.09 - $22.15 - $23.25 - $24.42 per hour, effective July 10, 2,000.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.

Job Title: Parks Maintenance Lead Worker
Department: Parks and Recreation
Reports To: Parks Foreworker
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt .
DEFINITION
Under general supervision,. plans, organizes and directs the work of several .crews performing park
maintenance work in a section ofthe City. Performs related;work as assigned.
The. Parks: ,Maintenance Lead Worker is the working .lead level in park maintenance work in which
- incumbents plan, schedule; assign. and.direct the work of crews engaged inpark-maintenance work. and
provide technical: assistance as .necessary. This class is distinguished from Park Maintenance
'S'upervisor, which is. responsible for citywide day-to-day parks ..maintenance activities.
ESSENTIAL.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, schedules, assigns, directs and reviews the work of crews engaged in park maintenance
. work.: '
Personally performs ,skilled landscaping and park facilities maintenance duties;.
Instructs and provides' for the training of Parr. Maintenance Workers in work methods, use of tools
and equipment and relevant safety precautions; -
' Review work orders .and inspects locations where work:is to be performed, notes special
equipment needs and difficulties, which maybe encountered;
Estimates time, cost, labor, and materials needed for jobs;
Assigns personnel and orders necessary equipment and materials, discusses job details with
subordinates;
Interprets drawings diagrams, specifications and' blueprints as required;
Reviews work°in progress and work completed;
Ensures world conforrriity with work orders and specifications, ensures safe work practices and
procedures are followed;
Conducts safety meetings;
Makes recommendations for work by contract when appropriate;
Inspects contract work for conformitywith specifications;
Responds. to questions: and complaints from the public and ensures satisfactory resolution;
Requisitions materials, supplies .and equipment for maintenance and repair. work and ensures
adequate. supply:nventories; - .
Reviews and evaluateswork performance;
Keeps a variety of reports and-records and makes periodic and special reports of work performed;
- Recommends and implements improved work methods and procedures;
Arranges for and coordinates work with other City organizational units;
Provides for emergency work as required;
Acts as the Park Maintenance Eoreworker on a relief basis.
LEADERSIiIP' SKILLS
Coordinates subordinate employees in the Park Division. Carries out supervisory responsibilities
in accordance with the organizatign's policies .and applicable laws. Responsibilities include
recommendations in interviewing, hiring„and training employees; planning, assigning and
directing work; contributes to performance apprasals;.recommends the rewarding and/or
disciplining of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in a professional
manner.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/ror EXPERIENCE
High school. diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in .landscape and park
.maintenance;. and/or course work in horticulture, or landscape maintenance and construction
- equivalent to 4. years. Course work: in supervisory skills or demonstrated leadership responsibility..
'LANGUAG'E' SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret. documents such as safety rules; operating :and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability
to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL. SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unitsof measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, aril decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs,.
REASONING ABILITY
. Ability to apply cominori.sense understanding to carryout instructions. furnished in written, oral, or
diagram forma Abilityto deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations. -
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must posses avalid- California Drivers License, Class C, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Must possess a Qualified Applicators Certificate, or License..
ISA Certified Arborist Certificate is required within eighteen (1~8) months of appointment.
