PRESENT: Sobel, Balshaw, Cavanagh, Davis, Tencer, Vice Mayor Woolsey, Mayor Hilligoss ABSENT: 0 PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE Assistant City Manager Gene Beatty, addressed the Commission on the status of the Pedestrian Bridge. Contact has been made with Mr. Kieckhefer the owner of the Golden Eagle Shopping center regarding parking. Mr. Kieckhefer has some reservations with eliminating parking spaces on Water Street. It was the consensus of the Commission for staff to bring back to the next PCDC meeting, a sketch of the proposed building on the lot where Dixie's Flowers now stands. This would give the Commission a chance to see what Western Street Extension would look like with a building and the Pedestrian bridge at that location. This also allows the Commission to see what the bridge would like in other locations. The Commission would like the Pedestrian bridge to be open by August 1, 1988, and asked for staff to bring back a time line as to what needs to be done to meet that date. STREET TREES Planning Director Warren Salmons, reported to the Commission on Street Trees and asked for direction. This is the time of year that makes for good tree planting just prior to the rainy season. Mr. Salmons stated that they are specifically looking at locations where building improvements and remodelling has occured. There are some options to consider in the selection of trees. Using larger trees as opposed to smaller young trees, using tree grates and tree guards, planting smaller trees or postponing any kind of planting until we have developed a tree planting master plan which would not be anticipated until the Downtown Redevlopment Plan is revised. It Mwa the consensus of the Commission for staff to come back with bids, actual locations, species and cost of this project. The meeting was adjourned. , Chai man M.
